About Madigan Lawlor

Hi, I’m Madigan Lawlor from Greenville, SC! LD has always been my favorite form of debate for its emphasis on philosophy and flexibility. I competed in the NSDA for four years, doing one year of extemp/impromptu before sticking with LD through senior year. I’m excited to be writing for Nile so I can scratch that debate itch I’ve been having!

In those three years, I passed 2,000 points and became an Academic All-American. After being state runner-up junior year, I was the state champion my senior year. I have made it to break rounds at nationals each year, reaching 26th senior year. I also had the privilege to serve as debate captain for two years, helping out the novices and leading team prayers. The achievement I am personally most proud of was being voted 2024 SC District Student of the Year.

I am excited to bring some of my personal flavor to Nile. Since the NSDA is a public organization, being steeped in secular philosophy was essential. This background, I think, will give me a unique perspective that I hope will inspire others to be more creative. I’m grateful to be able to write with many other great debaters. Can’t wait to see everyone’s cases!
