Meet Wyatt Trull:
Wyatt is an NCFCA national champion and collegiate debater at Patrick Henry College with seven years of competitive experience across high school and college debate. Competing all four years in NCFCA, Wyatt was a top national Lincoln-Douglas competitor during his sophomore and junior seasons, earning 3rd place at the NCFCA National Championship in LD. In his senior year, he transitioned to Team Policy. He and his partner had the goal of winning a national title—an objective they achieved. They won the finals at the National Championship. Wyatt was also awarded 1st Place Team Policy Speaker. In college, Wyatt has continued to compete at a high level in moot court, mock trial, and civic debate, qualifying for the Moot Court National Championship two consecutive years, winning multiple regional tournaments, and advancing to outrounds at nationals. He was also selected to represent Patrick Henry College at the 2025 Transatlantic Dialogues final round at the École de Guerre in Paris, where his team earned 2nd place.

Wyatt has coached Lincoln-Douglas and Team Policy for the past five years and has organized and led multiple summer debate camps, bringing championship-level experience and preparation to every student he works with.

Coaching philosophy:
St. Augustine once said, “The truth is like a lion; you don’t have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself.” My coaching philosophy begins and ends with that conviction. I believe the most effective way to win debates—and to become a compelling advocate—is to argue the truth and to believe it. Throughout my competitive career, I never advanced a case or position that I thought was false. The conviction of believing what you are saying is true is persuasive in a way that strategy alone can never be. The debater’s task is not to manufacture clever arguments, but to clearly and persuasively set the truth loose before a judge. When that is done well, both in debate and in life, our responsibility is complete. We trust God with the outcome.
